Sandburg Men Pull Away From Black Hawk for 3rd Straight Win

The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team used a tiebreaking run midway through the second half to defeat Black Hawk 75-66 on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium for its third straight Arrowhead Conference victory.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Sandburg (17-6, 3-2) led 49-37 four minutes into the second half before the Braves (8-14, 1-4) put together a 16-0 run to tie the game.
  • The Chargers answered right back with 10 of the next 12 points, starting with Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) finding James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) for a 3-pointer. Sandburg also got a pair of layups from Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and a corner trey from Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) during the stretch to go ahead 59-51.
  • Black Hawk was within 61-58 with 5:00 left before Fayhee delivered a three-point play, and the Braves didn’t get within five points the rest of the way.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Wilson led five Chargers in double figures as he scored 13 points while hitting 6 of 10 shots. He also had two assists and a block.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

  • Fayhee had 12 points and tied Young and Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) for the team lead with seven rebounds.
  • Jones also scored a dozen and grabbed six boards.
  • Baer scored 11 on 4-for-8 shooting.
  • Young finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
